Author: Steven  |  Leave a Comment >>

Are you looking for an extension to your beautiful home?

Planet South Lakes have a fantastic range of conservatories available, both traditional and contemporary in design. The choice includes bespoke conservatories, gable conservatories, victorian conservatories, edwardian conservatories, p-shape conservatories and lean-to conservatories.

If you’re looking for a more traditional design then the edwardian or victorian conservatory may be what you’re looking for. Or if you’re after a more Mediterranean feel, the lean-to conservatories may be more what you’re looking for. The lean-to conservatories are rectangularly designed and are able to be installed in more awkward areas than other designs.

PVC Windows – Do mine need replacing?

Author: Steven  |  Leave a Comment >>

I have water dripping down my windows

If you see water running down your windows, there is no need to worry straight away. This is particularly normal if it is a cold day and the moisture is on the outside of the pane. One of the main reasons this happens is the moisture from your breath condensing on to a cool surface, which obviously includes your double glazing – simply increasing ventilation in the room will help.

When is something wrong?

If the water is in the gap between the double glazed units this means the units are broken and require maintenance. You should contact the installer straight away and tell them about your situation. Normally, this means replacement windows will be required, but this is not a big job and they will hopefully still be under warranty.

Bespoke Conservatories, Cumbria

Author: Steven  |  Leave a Comment >>

A lot of people believe that the term bespoke and made-to-measure refer to the same thing. They do not.

The word bespoke comes from a long time ago when tailors stocked bolts of cloth in their workshops. Then when a customer chose a piece of fabric for a new suit, it was said to have “been spoken for”. This suit made to fit your exact body shape and personal requirements, is called “bespoke”, not “made-to-measure” which uses a template adjusted to individual measurements.

Whether the conservatory in Cumbria you are looking for is a more old fashioned design that will look to reflect the stature of a period property, or a contemporary conservatory to match a more modern property, chose bespoke and we will work with you on both the planning and construction, as well as the finer details to achieve the exact look that you want.

What better time to invest in energy saving uPVC windows and doors

Author: Steven  |  Leave a Comment >>

Today, more than ever, we are concerned about the amount of energy we are using in our homes. Job cuts, money worries and our impact on the environment are all major factors in the way we utilise and expend energy at home. Investing in energy saving uPVC windows and doors can provide a long lasting way of helping ensure that heat does not escape from our dwellings.

As an additional benefit, choosing a uPVC window that has an energy rating of C or above means that they actually help to utilise the solar energy coming into our homes, helping to heat up our homes. Choosing uPVC windows and doors that carry the C rating or above help to ensure that money is saved long term as it is a well documented fact that depending on our window set up there is a large scope for heat loss to occur.…

The best Cumbria conservatories

Author: Steven  |  Leave a Comment >>

Be careful using conservatory and other home improvement websites.

When looking through the many different conservatory and double glazing websites on the net, it can be challenging to decide which sites to trust.

A warning! There are a number of websites offering to put you in touch with knowledgeable home improvement companies in your area. Often the implication is that you can get a quotation online for the proposed work, but in reality these websites are trying to capture your information. They then sell to three, or in some cases more companies.

This is a big problem. You are likely to be pestered by a number of unvetted companies, potentially with high pressure sales representatives and you are unlikely to have had the opportunity to research these companies yourself before they ring you up to try make an appointment. We have heard many stories correlating to this from customers who…

Fitting New Windows in Lancaster? Read This First!

Author: Steven  |  Leave a Comment >>

The City of Lancaster has a long and rich history from its origins as a Roman garrison, the site of which is now home to Lancaster Castle which overlooks the city from its high vantage point close to the River Lune. The city takes its name from both the Roman garrison and the river.

The city’s original name of Loncastre was recorded in the Doomsday Book in 1086. Lon = lune, the French word meaning moon and caster = from the Latin word for camp or base.  So for lovers of Space 1999, Lancaster means Moon Base. How cool is that!

Many buildings in the city centre and St. Georges Quay date from the 18th Century when Lancaster was one of the busiest ports in the UK. The city’s maritime heyday was short lived, however its Georgian buildings still remain, most of which are listed, especially those…
