Energy Regulator Encourages Competition For Energy

It seems that not a week goes by without one or more of them announcing a host of profits which has caused energy regulator Ofgem to urge the Big Six to auction of some of the energy they produce.
Because of the over-riding dominance of the Big Six, smaller companies struggle to get a fair slice of the pie, but Ofgem hope that by auctioning off a quarter of the energy produced by bigger firms will enable the lesser names to better compete.
Ed Davey, the Energy and Climate Change Secretary, has welcomed Ofgem’s advice: “Consumers will get the best deals when suppliers face tough competition and that is what both government and regulator are working to achieve.”
