Iraq Skyscraper Set To Raise The Bar

A potential blow has been dealt to the developers of the Kingdom Tower currently being constructed in Jeddah as plans have been drawn up to create the world’s tallest skyscraper in Iraq.

Upon opening in 2019, the Kingdom Tower will surpass the Burj Khalifa in Dubai which currently holds the title of the tallest building in the world.

It is set to stretch a whopping 1 kilometres into the sky. However, the Kingdom Towers’ reign could be short-lived if the so-called Bride Tower gets the go-ahead.

Due to be situated in the southern Basra province, the Bride Tower will measure a record-breaking 1,152 metres tall and consist of four interlinked towers with 230 storeys encompassing offices, hotels, residential areas, schools, clinics, commercial centres, parks and gardens.

To put the immense height of the skyscraper into context it would be like the Shard sitting on the shoulders of the Burj.

The architects behind the design have described it as “the first vertical city in the world”.

No site or completion date has yet to be confirmed for the Tower so the creators of the Kingdom Tower can rest easy for now.
