The Energy Efficiency Guide: How To Save Money

Lower energy usage

As part of a package to support households through unprecedented energy costs, Liz Truss capped the price of energy at £2,500 per year for a ‘medium’ energy usage.

Which? has estimated that typical households will save an average of £1000 based on this announcement, as the cap had reached a shocking £3,549 two weeks prior.

While many households will be feeling a sense of relief, there are many who argue that this new cap does not go far enough as it’s still much more expensive than it was previously.

With winter on its way, thousands of households will be unsure if they should be turning on their heating yet and risk skyrocketing energy costs. Planet has put together a guide of simple ways you can reduce your energy usage, helping to keep your bills at a controlled level.

Reduce your showering time

You’ll be surprised how much energy you can save over time by taking shorter showers. Even shaving (pardon the pun!) just 2 minutes off your shower time can help you save money on your energy bills.

Did you know the recommended time for a body shower is between 5 and 10 minutes? Put together a 7 minute playlist and think of all the money you’ll be saving!

Dry your washing on a line outside

A tumble dryer consumes a large amount of energy, so we recommend you hang your washing out to dry instead. 2022 has been an incredibly dry year for most areas in the UK so let’s hope the dry weather continues!

Another tip to make sure you do full laundry loads and to run your washing machine in the early morning and late at night to avoid the energy price surge that occurs when most people are doing chores.
