Planet South Lakes – Top Tips For Energy-Saving In The Home

Household energy has risen massively over the past few years. The average energy bill now stands at around £1,200-£1,300 which has resulted in thousands of UK homeowners slipping into fuel poverty. A property is classed as living in fuel poverty when ‘it needs to spend more than 10% of its income on fuel to maintain an adequate level of warmth’.

Anyone currently being hit by expensive energy bills needs to make a conscious effort to save energy in the home. Planet South Lakes has put together the following advice to help you do just that:

Mobile phones

Android and smartphones require regular charging. Once your mobile phone has been fully charged make sure that you unplug it straight away in order to avoid wasting energy.

Showers and baths

Showering utilises far less water than having a bath, so keep baths to a minimum, but also make sure that showers are kept short.

Curtains

As soon as it begins to go dark outside close your curtains as they will help retain any warmth. Keep them closed when in bed.

Kettle

When making a hot drink only boil the required amount of water, rather than overfill the kettle and use excess electricity.

Light bulbs

Replace existing traditional light bulbs with energy-saving light bulbs as per bulb you could save as much as £2.50 per year.

Appliances

Where at all possible, ensure that appliances aren’t left on standby as even when not in use they will continue to consume energy.

Oven

When you have finished cooking food in the oven leave the oven door open and let the warmth flow around your kitchen.

Radiators

Cover the back of your radiator with tinfoil as it will help reflect heat back into the home.

For more substantial energy savings you should look into purchasing double glazing in Lancashire, orangeries and conservatories from Planet South Lakes.
