How To Enjoy The Most Cosy Christmas At Home
The big day is getting closer and the weather’s getting colder. Yes, Christmas is just around the corner and excitement is abound.
Home is the place to be at Christmas and you’ll be right in the festive spirit once you’ve done your present wrapping whilst eating a few mince pies and sinking a cheeky mulled wine or two.
Make it a cosy venue for the occasion, one that doesn’t just rely on you having to put on your heating or warmest pair of pyjamas.
Create a brilliantly festive fireplace
The Christmas tree is the biggest centrepiece in most homes throughout the festive period, but your fireplace could be just as much of a festive focus.
Bring attention to it with a large wreath in the wall space above – it’ll make a change from hanging one on your front door.
A garland should then cover the mantlepiece and spell out a seasonal message on or close to it with a neon sign saying something like ‘Merry Xmas’ or ‘Happy Holidays’.
House fairy lights in jars and bottles
Got a few empty jars or wine bottles ready for recycling? Rather than consign them to the bin, upcycle them and put fairy lights inside.
To get a set of fairy lights in a wine bottle, carefully drill a hole at the bottom that’s big enough for you to feed the lights through and then rearrange them.
If short of time, you can always just buy some, and we recommend battery-powered lights to save on energy costs. Finally, put the bottles and jars around the house.
Display photos of old happy Christmases
Nothing makes you cosier and feel more comforted than being surrounded by loved ones. See if you have any photos from previous Christmases as a family and get them on display.
Some of your favourite snaps could be printed onto personalised baubles that you can pop on the tree or added to snow globes that will sit nicely on a shelf.
They’ll make you laugh. They’ll make you smile. And they might even make you cry.
