Is A Composite Or UPVC Door The Ideal Replacement For Your Door?

Is A Composite Or UPVC Door The Ideal Replacement For Your Door?

Your home is made up of many different elements and your front door has to be one of the most important of them for various reasons.

It’s a key focal point of any house, has a role in keeping properties secure, and the overall character of a building can very much be dictated by the styling of a front door.

Unless your front door is fulfilling all these necessities, we recommend buying a replacement from us.

Our UPVC doors and composite doors are worth a look, with most people knowing plenty about the former and not so much about the latter door solution.

What are composite doors?

If you look up the word ‘composite’, you will discover that it’s used to describe something made up of several parts or elements, which a composite door is – UPVC, foam, wood, and a GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) skin.

Unless you’re told, you could easily believe that a composite door is entirely built from wood as it has a convincing wood grain effect, but it isn’t and its mix of materials help it to be much sturdier and weather proofing than traditional wooden doors.

Composite doors are notoriously tough but the strength of our composite door solutions is markedly higher than most alternative offerings.

The different components of a composite door

How is the composite door different from the UPVC door?

The thickness of a composite door is one of the primary differences (it has an average depth of 44mm, whereas a UPVC door frame is usually about 28mm) and it’s because a UPVC is solely composed from plastic, rather than multiple materials.

It requires a bigger outlay to purchase a composite door than it does for a UPVC door but that can be explained by the reliance on multiple materials to construct a composite design.

Although UPVC doors are less expensive, their thermal and secure performance is still well up to modern standards.

What maintenance is required with a composite or UPVC door?

Not much, to be honest! Use warm soapy water to wipe down their frames every four months – avoid the use of abrasive materials or solvent based cleaners.

Just once a year, lubricate the locks, hinges, handles, and door hardware to keep them, and the door itself, working smoothly.

Carry out regular checks of the threshold and drainage holes of the door to see if any debris builds up in them, and if it does, immediately remove it – keep a keen eye on this during any prolonged periods of poor weather.
