Modern Or Traditional – Which Replacement Window Style Will Suit Your Home?

Your windows have a huge influence on the overall appearance of your home. With that in mind, when the time comes to replace them, any replacement windows you buy must be true to the traditional character of the property.

Flush Casement Windows

To find the right window style for any replacement window project you should take a look at the various modern and traditional window styles supplied and fitted by Planet. Seeing and touching each individual replacement window will give you a definite indication of which windows will and won’t work.

Until you see them all in person you won’t be able to decide, but a short description of three of our most popular modern and traditional window styles will prove a good starting point in your window buying journey…

Aluminium Windows

You won’t find a more modern-looking window than an aluminium window. With an unbelievably slim profile, you get a far greater expanse of glass than you do in most window designs which maximises external views from inside the house.

The finish on an aluminium window is as striking as the slenderness of the window frame and it’s because all coloured finishes incorporated into aluminium windows are powder-coated and applied using an 11-stage process. This procedure makes the colour powerful and ensures it won’t gradually vanish.

Flush Casement Windows

The first flush casement windows were developed in the 17th Century and they’re as loved now as they were back then. We have retained several of the characteristics of the traditional flush casement, such as making sure the window sits flush against the frame when it’s closed.

Our modern twist on a traditional flush casement window has been christened ‘Envisage’ which is a very fitting name as you can envisage having a prettier, more secure and more thermally efficient home once a set of them have been installed.

Sliding Sash Windows

Like the flush casement, sliding sash windows date back a few centuries and once again, like Envisage, we have interfered very little with the original design, keeping its trademark sliding mechanism where one or more movable sashes open.

What has changed is that our sliding sash windows are crafted from UPVC, rather than timber and with good reason as UPVC is weather-resistant, an impressive insulator and low-maintenance, everything that wood isn’t. They really look at home when integrated into traditional residences.

Heritage Windows

Replacing windows at a listed building or at a property within a conservation area can be even less straightforward, but not when the replacement window is a Heritage window.

Modelled on the 19th Century flush sash timber window, Heritage windows are well liked by planners as they look near identical to authentic wooden flush sash windows and have the same sort of proportions and hardware. But they’re not just fit for old homes. They can add traditional charm to up-to-the-minute properties too.
